Touchscreen Volkswagen Bring Back the Physical Buttons

Volkswagen is taking a different path from most car manufacturers by reintroducing classic push buttons in its upcoming vehicles. This update was reported by Autocar UK, highlighting the shift with Volkswagen’s unveiling of the ID. 2all concept’s interior, which signals a return to a more traditional control layout.

Darius Watola, the lead on Volkswagen’s cabin design, notes that the ID. 2all marks the beginning of a new era for the brand’s vehicle interiors. They’re opting for physical buttons after hearing from drivers who find screens a bit too much when on the move. Other manufacturers are starting to think along the same lines as well.

It seems there’s a growing preference for simplicity over sophistication when it comes to car controls. Volkswagen is listening and is bringing back the button, a response to those who find touchscreens distracting and not always safe while driving.

This is quite the turnaround from Volkswagen’s earlier strategies, which aimed to mimic Tesla’s streamlined, touch-focused control panels. The company’s current leader, Thomas Schafer, has recognized that the previous direction might have been a misstep, affecting the brand’s reputation. By reverting to physical controls, Volkswagen is making a statement about valuing driver feedback and the functional joy of driving.
