Ford India Shut Down Manufacturing Vehicles After $2 Billion Loss

In 1994, Ford entered the Indian market and It was the first MNCs automotive company in India. After 27 years company announced Ford India shut down stops the manufacturing of vehicles in India. Sanand plant of export will close by Q4 2021 and Chennai engine & Vehicle plants will close by Q2 2022. Ford will continue the selling of imported models like Mustang.

Why Ford India Shut Down Production?

There may be lots of reasons but the main reason is Not utilizing production capacity. Both plants have the production capacity of 400000 units annually but in previous, they manage to produce only 80000 unit which is less and in which half of the cars are for export. Sanand plant was made to match Ford’s global standards and expensing for manufacturing too while the Maraimalai plant was cost-effective where Endeavour and EcoSport made, is not financially workable

Future for Ford in India?

Ford will remain in India to continue their business solutions in India and increase team for it which will support ford globally. Ford company said in a press release that India is Ford’s second-largest salaried workplace globally. They also said that around 4000 employees will be affected by this change.

What about Ford Customers in India?

Ford has promised to give full support to their customer service, Warranty services, aftermarket parts. Dealers continue as the ford network and support CBU. But yes, Customer touchpoint may decrease in smaller areas because most probably showrooms and services close in smaller areas due to Ford India shut down. As said Ford India will close both manufacturing plants by Q2 2022 hence export of the vehicles also end
