Mercedes-Benz VLE Electric Van Revealed – 700km Range

Mercedes-Benz has officially taken the covers off the VLE — its first all-electric van built from the ground up as a luxury people mover. Revealed on March 10, 2026, the VLE is the production realization of the Vision V concept shown at Auto Shanghai 2025, and it’s the first vehicle to ride on Mercedes’ brand-new VAN.EA electric platform. The brand’s CEO Ola Kallenius had promised the production car would look “remarkably similar” to the concept. He wasn’t wrong.

Mercedes VLE Range & Battery Options

The VLE launches on the VAN.EA architecture — a purpose-built, 800V electric platform designed to underpin Mercedes’ next generation of electric MPVs, including the upcoming range-topping VLS. This isn’t a rebodied car platform or an adapted truck chassis. It was built from the start to deliver EV-specific proportions, weight distribution, and charging capability.

Two variants are confirmed at launch. The VLE 300 produces 276hp and claims over 700km of WLTP range from its 115kWh NMC battery — a figure that comfortably outpaces most EVs in any segment. Thanks to 800V architecture, you can add roughly 320km in just 15 minutes at a compatible DC fast charger. The more potent VLE 400 steps things up with all-wheel drive, 415hp, and a 0–100kph sprint of 6.5 seconds. That’s quicker than plenty of performance sedans. A smaller 80kWh lithium-iron-phosphate variant is expected later, and combustion-engine versions on the separate VAN.CA platform will round out the lineup down the line.

Mercedes VLE Exterior

The VLE manages a drag coefficient of just 0.25Cd — the same figure as the Porsche Macan Turbo Electric — which is extraordinary for a tall, multi-passenger van. Mercedes achieved this through a smooth roofline that slopes gently toward the rear, a long front overhang, flush door handles, and carefully managed underbody airflow. The van has electric sliding doors on both sides, and buyers get a choice of 19- to 22-inch wheel sizes.

The face is unmistakably Mercedes: a full-width light strip connects the headlamps, and the DRLs use star-shaped elements pulled straight from the brand’s passenger car lineup. Depending on the variant, the grille can be fitted with an illuminated frame. Buyers also get to choose between a traditional standing three-pointed star on the bonnet or a centrally placed emblem on the grille. At the back, a full-width light bar forms an inverted U shape across the tailgate — clean, striking, and clearly in the family.

It is made for situations where you would spend a lot of time in your car, and you want to spend that time well — in ways that are productive and fun. It is the redefinition of first-class travel on the road.

Mercedes VLE Interior and Features

This is where the VLE pulls clear of the competition. The cabin can seat five to eight people across multiple configurations. Pull out the rear seats entirely and you open up 4,078 litres of luggage space — and because the seats run on rollers, you’re wheeling them out rather than wrestling them off the floor.

Three rear seat grades are available: a manually adjustable Comfort Seat, an electrically adjustable Premium Comfort Seat, and the top-spec Grand Comfort Seat — the latter adding pillow support, lumbar massage, wireless charging, and calf rests. Folding tables come as an option for rear passengers who need to work on the move. The dashboard is genuinely impressive: a 10.25-inch driver’s display, 14-inch central touchscreen, and 14-inch passenger screen span the full width of the fascia. When rear passengers want their own screen, a 31.3-inch 8K display unfolds from the roof liner. It packs away just as smoothly when not in use.

Sound is handled by a 750W, 22-speaker Dolby Atmos setup. The centre console keeps drinks warm or cold and includes UV disinfection for items stored inside. Safety is covered by 10 cameras, five radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, and the VLE supports over-the-air software updates. Rear-axle steering with up to seven degrees of movement helps achieve a turning circle of just 10.9 metres — comparable, Mercedes says, to the CLA sedan.

Mercedes VLE Launch in India?

Mercedes has not announced India plans for the VLE. The brand recently brought in the V-Class here and has been leaning heavily into what it calls its Top-End Vehicle (TEV) segment — which grew roughly 11 percent in 2025, with about one in four cars sold now falling into that bracket. The demand signals are there. Whether Mercedes pulls the trigger on the VLE for India will likely depend on how the model is received globally and how the luxury MPV segment develops here through 2026 and beyond.

European sales are expected to begin in mid-2026, with entry pricing expected to start above €80,000 depending on market and specification. The VLS — the more opulent model above the VLE in the same family — is expected to debut later in 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the range of the Mercedes-Benz VLE electric van?

The VLE 300 variant offers a claimed WLTP range of over 700km on a full charge from its 115kWh NMC battery pack.

How fast does the Mercedes VLE charge?

With its 800V electrical architecture, the VLE can recover approximately 320km of range in around 15 minutes at a compatible DC fast charger.

What platform is the Mercedes VLE built on?

The VLE is the first production model on Mercedes-Benz’s new VAN.EA platform — a purpose-built, BEV-first, modular architecture for electric MPVs.

Will the Mercedes-Benz VLE be launched in India?

No India launch date has been announced. Given the brand’s strong TEV growth in 2025 and rising luxury MPV demand, it remains a possibility in the medium term.

What is the difference between the Mercedes VLE and VLS?

Both are built on VAN.EA. The VLE is the entry point of the electric van family; the VLS sits above it and is expected to be revealed later in 2026 as the flagship model.
